About Us
KLPI is Louisiana Tech’s campus-based, student-run, alternative rock radio station. Specialty Programming occurs throughout the week, allowing DJs to host both talk and music shows.
Our History
Ever wondered what the letters “LPI” stood for in KLPI? KLPI was originally founded in 1966 by a group of Electrical Engineering graduate students at Louisiana Polytechnic Institute, the previous name of Louisiana Tech University. It was founded as an AM station under the call sign WLPI, running in a rented space in downtown Ruston.
KLPI was eventually purchased by the University, making it an official component of the institution. Since then, KLPI has moved around quite a bit and now operates on-campus within Howard Auditorium in association with the Louisiana Tech School of Music.
